Technical notes
The MTS 318.25 can perform monotonic load tests such as tension, compression, and flexure, as well as creep and flexure tests. All of these tests can be performed under load and strain control (using extensometers as the control device) as well as under displacement control. With the availability of a small force sensor, the system is capable of performing precise studies of the properties of soft biomaterials. Finally, the high cylinder speed achieved by servohydraulics gives the 318.25 the ability to perform tests over a wide range of strain rates. The MTS TestWorks 4 package has a wide range of capabilities for conducting monotonic tests. The Define section makes it easy to modify test procedures to create new ones. The built-in calculation library includes formulas that apply to most ASTM, ISO, and DIN standards, or you can create your own. The built-in graphing package allows you to choose the type of data display and enter your own rules for calculating properties such as elastic modulus, yield strength, etc.
